Marg, a magazine of the arts, was first published in October 1946 with eminent novelist and writer Mulk Raj Anand as Editor, Anil de Silva, from Sri Lanka, as Assistant Editor, and renowned art historian Karl J. Khandalavala as Art Advisor. Today Marg is under the General Editorship of Pratapaditya Pal.
Marg began as an independent quarterly journal and has always been well regarded for its gravitas and vigour. The need to sustain the journal financially led to the publication of thematically linked sponsored books every quarter.
Since September 2009, the quarterly Magazine has been delinked from the quarterly series of hard cover books. With its focus on grids of art and cultural tradition, the Magazine reflects new trends, new research, and new scholarship, with both new and established art historians and scholars. The Magazine addresses various constituencies so that each reader finds something of interest.
Marg is published quarterly with at least one issue every volume centred on a theme.
